Wrapped in Old Newspaper-Part 5: Frozen in Place?

I drew this for the Long Island Voice back in 1998. It was for an article about how the Islanders hockey team were "frozen in place" at the Nassau Coliseum. Looks like they're finally moving. And to Brooklyn's Barclay Center, no less.

Decisions, decisions...

Here's a color sketch I did at the end of last month regarding the two of the season's impending events.

I've since seen another artist's take on a pumpkin with the party mascots carved into it, so I've kind of lost my enthusiasm for doing a fully rendered version. If I rally in the time remaining, I'll post that, too.

Yankenstein's Monster

Dug up this somewhat Halloween-y cartoon from my old editorial cartooning days. This one never saw print. It was some kind of commentary on the public cost of the then-impending new Yankee Stadium.

Unliving Dolls

Just in time for Halloween, I unearthed these old sketches for Halloween-themed paper dolls. As I recall, they were going to be part of a seasonal fashion spread for one of the many free weekly newspapers that have long since joined the choir invisible.

In keeping with this month's Halloween theme, here is one of several iterations of The Carpenter's Devil, of which I did several drawings and at least one watercolor in 2009. This one's pretty loose, (note the see-through saw)but it's my favorite (so far). Happy Halloween!

  The Right DANDY of Doom! This tip of one hat each to Rea Irvin's Eustace Tilley and Mike Mignola's wonderful Hellboy began as an (unsubmitted) entry to the New Yorker's annual Tilley contest a few years back. Halloween seems as appropriate a time as any to -um- resurrect him.

Another Mad Men homage profile pic design from last year. It isn't strictly a Halloween toon, but I did dress as Batman several childhood Halloweens in a row. Batman is a trademark of DC Comics.

Breaking the Walking Mad Bad Dead Men

 I'm a fan of the AMC programs Mad Men, Breaking Bad, and The Walking Dead, all three of which have featured extraordinary production design and instantly iconic advertising campaigns. Given the recent speculation that the costs associated with one show's production deal have affected the funds available for those of the other two, the following mashup occurred to me as a possible (if not serious) solution.
